On August 21, 1829, Henry Myers purchased the 160 acres of land of the
NW quarter of section 11, in what was then Vernon Twp., Richland
County, Ohio. This section is now a part of Sharon Twp.

In December of 1837, Henry Myers deeded a portion of that land (the
very southeastern corner) to the Elders of the Lutheran German
Reformed Church of Richland County. This document indicates that
there was in existance at that time, a meeting house, a burying ground,
and a schoolhouse to be called the Myers Meeting House. 1

On May 1853, on the motion of John Myers, the Sharon Township School
Board voted to empower the local directors of School District # 8 (which
1 year later became School District # 2), to levy a tax of $450.00 for the
purpose of building a school house in this district. The board authorized
those local directors to procure and secure a site for a school house in this
district by lease so long as they may occupy it for school purposes.

This appears to be the beginning of the existance of at least the second
school house to be known as Myers School, in what came to be Sharon
Township School District # 2. John Myers and his father Henry, were
associated with this school district from it's inception. The John Myers
property can be seen in the upper left corner, of the two above maps.

John Myers continued to serve as a local school director of District #2
school into the late 1860's. Later in the mid 1880's, A. W. Myers served
as a teacher in this district.

Note that the Myers School house, shown on the maps above, is located on
property adjacent to William Douglas. It is across the road from the Myers
Church & Cemetery, which was located on land adjacent to the property
(in 1896) of Peter Will, who was a son of Valentine Will, a director of the
Will School in District # 5. Peter had taught at Will School prior to
enlisting in Co. F, 163rd Regt. O. V. I. in the Civil War.

The Henry Myers family came to Richland County in ca. 1829 from
Stark County, Ohio and previously, from Adams County, Pennsylvania.
